PM Asks the Public to be on Alert for Coronavirus
Prime Minister Hun Sen today cautioned the public to be on the alert for the new strain of coronavirus, which is currently spreading in China and other countries although it has not been detected in the Kingdom yet.
He said on his official Facebook page that the Novel Coronavirus first detected in China has now spread to other countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Nepal, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Mr Hun Sen urged the public to be cautious, protect their own health and to prevent any spread of the disease.
“While the citizens are enjoying the Lunar New Year, please take part in preventing the new respiratory tract infection known as Novel Coronavirus, which is spreading in China and now in some countries. This coronavirus has not been detected in Cambodia so far,” he said.
He also advised relevant ministries, departments and institutions to have officials on 24-hour standby to receive calls made to the hotline.
The premier also called on Cambodian citizens and students in China to take good care of their health, and contact the Cambodian embassy there if they any queries.
Pen Barang, one of 20 Cambodian postgraduate students studying in China’s Wuhan city where the virus outbreak first occurred, said today that all of them are currently in good health.
He said they are worried about the situation and want the government and other relevant institutions to help them to return to Cambodia soon.
