Japan embassy to hold online Tanabata 2020 soon
The Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre and the Japan Foundation Asia Centre will hold an “Online Tanabata 2020” on the second week of July.
According to a press release from the Embassy of Japan in Phnom Penh issued yesterday, the “Online Tanabata 2020” will take place from July 11-12 instead of the annual event.
“Tanabata Festival” organized since 2004 to promote cultural exchanges between Japan and Cambodia. Tanabata is a Japanese traditional festival, celebrated every year on July 7 in Japan to recall a story of a couple of lovers.
“During ‘Online Tanabata 2020’ in Cambodia, we will put big branches of bamboo with colorful decorations at the Embassy of Japan. We would like to invite people to join ‘Online Tanabata 2020’ by sending their wishes from June 23-July 5, 2020. All the wishes will be hanged on bamboo stalks in the Embassy of Japan with other decorated ornaments and will be shown in the opening video of ‘Online Tanabata 2020’,” said the press release.
Some of them will be selected to be posted on Online Tanabata 2020’s event page, said the same source, adding that people can send their wish in Khmer, Japanese or English with their name or nickname. Their wishes and given information might be shown to the public.
