Thailand Claim of “Newly Planted” Landmine Is Unverified, Says Technical Official
A Cambodian technical official has dismissed Thailand’s assertion that the landmine which injured Thai soldiers on 10 November was “newly planted”, saying the claim remains unverified and ASEAN observers have not yet reached the blast site.
According to the official, the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT) has not arrived at the location of the explosion and is only preparing for the inspection visit.
“Up to now, there is no report confirming that the mine stepped on was newly planted,” the official told Khmer Times, noting that any official conclusion must await their investigations.
Cambodia has categorically rejected Thailand’s accusation and reaffirmed that the Kingdom neither uses nor plants new landmines under any circumstances.
