Samdech Techo Hun Sen Extends Heartfelt Congratulations to Timor-Leste on Its Historic Accession to ASEAN

Phnom Penh, 26 October 2025 — Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has conveyed a message of heartfelt congratulations to H.E. José Manuel Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, on the historic occasion of Timor-Leste’s formal accession as the 11th Member State of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In his congratulatory message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed Cambodia’s deepest joy and warmest welcome to Timor-Leste, describing its accession as a “well-deserved achievement” that reinforces ASEAN’s unity and collective strength amid an increasingly complex global landscape.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted Cambodia’s pride in having been a steadfast friend and partner to Timor-Leste throughout its long journey toward ASEAN membership — a process that saw its in-principle admission endorsed during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits hosted by Cambodia in 2022.

He further noted that Timor-Leste’s inclusion will serve as a “valuable reinforcement of ASEAN’s unity” and that its active participation will meaningfully contribute to advancing the region’s shared vision of peace, stability, and prosperity.

Reaffirming his confidence in the enduring friendship between Cambodia and Timor-Leste, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his commitment to working closely with President Ramos-Horta to further strengthen bilateral relations and promote sustainable development and prosperity for both nations and the ASEAN Community.
