Phnom Penh, September 27, 2025 – The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has reported that Thai military forces launched an armed attack on Cambodian positions in the An Seh area, Preah Vihear province, on Saturday morning, in what marks a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

According to the official statement issued by H.E. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the incident occurred between 11:52 AM and 12:46 PM, and involved two rounds of heavy fire:

– First round: 11:52 AM to 12:22 PM
– Second round: 12:25 PM to 12:46 PM

Despite the assault, Cambodian forces exercised maximum restraint and did not return fire, reaffirming their commitment to fully respecting the ceasefire agreement signed on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya. That deal was brokered with the direct involvement of President Donald J. Trump, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and with the active participation of the People’s Republic of China.

The Ministry confirmed that after the shelling ceased, the situation remained calm from 12:46 PM until 6:30 PM. However, Cambodian reports indicated that the Thai bombardment, which involved mortar and small arms fire, caused damage to several buildings.

Cambodia stressed that its armed forces remain on high alert and are fully prepared to defend the nation’s sovereignty if necessary. At the same time, the Ministry reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and the full implementation of the ceasefire, urging Thailand to act in good faith and constructively uphold the agreement for the benefit of both nations.
