Cambodia Refutes False Reports of Border Provocation, Reaffirms Commitment to Ceasefire
Phnom Penh, 23 September 2025 — The Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia has firmly rejected reports by the official page of the Thai military and certain Thai media outlets alleging that Cambodian forces fired three to five small-caliber shots into Thai territory with intent to provoke along the border.
In an official statement issued this afternoon, Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defense, clarified that the claims are inaccurate. She confirmed, based on information from Military Region 4, that the Cambodian unit stationed in the area had accidentally discharged two shots at 1:20 PM.
At 2:16 PM, communication teams from both sides promptly exchanged information, and the matter was resolved in a spirit of cooperation.
The Ministry underscored that Cambodian forces did not engage in any hostile action against Thailand and reaffirmed that Cambodia remains committed to fostering peace and stability along the border.
“Cambodia reaffirms its readiness to cooperate with Thailand at all levels to promote peace, stability, cooperation, and development for the benefit of both nations,” the statement declared.
The Ministry further emphasized that Cambodian forces stand by the full and unwavering implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the Cambodian and Thai militaries, reached in Putrajaya on 28 July 2025.
