Banteay Meanchey, Sept. 17, 2025 – Tensions flared along the Cambodian-Thai border today when Thai soldiers reportedly fired smoke bombs and used slingshots and air guns during a confrontation with Cambodian villagers in Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, Banteay Meanchey province.

According to local media, the incident occurred as Cambodian villagers gathered to protect their homes from encroachment near the border. Eyewitnesses said the use of force by Thai troops created panic among residents, many of whom include women and children.

The confrontation has heightened concerns over border security and the safety of local communities. Cambodian authorities are closely monitoring the situation, though no immediate reports of serious injuries have been confirmed.

This latest development underscores the ongoing fragility of relations along certain stretches of the Cambodia-Thailand border, where disputes over land and demarcation occasionally erupt into standoffs.
