Government Spokesperson Outlines Cambodia’s Four Strategic Strengths Amid Armed Conflict with Thailand

Phnom Penh, August 4, 2025 — Cambodia possesses four key national strengths that have proven vital during recent armed tensions with Thailand, according to H.E. Pen Bona, Government Spokesperson, during a press briefing held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025 at the Council of Ministers regarding the update on the outcomes of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire implementation.
H.E. Pen Bona emphasized that Cambodia’s resilience during the five-day armed conflict between July 24–28, 2025, was underpinned by the following four strategic pillars:
1. Experienced and Visionary Leadership: Cambodia benefits from a leadership that is experienced, strategic, and forward-looking across military, political, and diplomatic domains. The country’s leaders are strongly committed to peace and strictly adhere to principles of international law.
2. Heroic Armed Forces: The Cambodian military comprises courageous and dedicated soldiers who are fully committed to defending peace, national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the honor of the Khmer nation.
3. Unified and Patriotic Citizenry: Cambodia’s population has demonstrated strong national unity, particularly when the country faces external threats. Cambodian citizens are deeply patriotic—though not extremist—and consistently rally together in defense of the nation.
4. Disciplined and Cohesive Governance: The nation’s civil and military institutions operate in disciplined unison under centralized leadership. All ranks strictly follow directives issued by the country’s command structure, ensuring consistency and strength in national response.
The spokesperson further remarked that these internal strengths have not only helped Cambodia endure the recent armed engagement, but also garnered attention, admiration, and respect from the international community. Despite being a small nation, Cambodia has demonstrated robust national solidarity and a foreign policy that aligns with the principles of the global community.
