Press Briefing – Update on the implementation of the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand

7:00AM, August 3, 2025
Keynote Address by H.E. LTG. Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Ministry of National Defense :
1. Cambodia rejects the baseless and false reports of some Thai media outlets.
Recently, Thailand has published news reports using fake photos and videos, accompanied by misleading commentary and distorted interpretations, falsely portraying the drone as Cambodian and claiming it flew into Thai territory. All these actions not only failed to help maintain the improved situation but also caused unnecessary tensions.
Cambodia repeatedly urges Thai side to immediately stop these actions. At the same time, Cambodia also calls on the Thai side to refrain from launching drones into Cambodian airspace and affirms that we will take appropriate measures in response to such violations.
2. As of now, 18 Cambodian military personnel remain under Thai’s control since 7:50 AM on July 29, 2025. Apart from the two wounded personnel who were returned to Cambodia on August 1, 2025, the remaining individuals have yet to be released. The Royal Government of Cambodia continues to call on the Thai side to promptly repatriate the rest of the personnel in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Cambodia is actively engaged in serious negotiations to resolve this issue and has also formally requested the mediation from Malaysia, in its capacity as Chair of ASEAN, to urge the Thai authorities to expedite their return. The Ministry of National Defense and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces strongly reaffirm that we will never abandon any of our military personnel, under any circumstances.
