Numerous Fake FB Accounts Impersonating Cambodians Undermine National Unity, Spokesperson
Phnom Penh, August 2, 2025 – During a press briefing on the “Outcome of the Ceasefire Implementation between Cambodia and Thailand”, held at the Office of the Council of Ministers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, His Excellency Pen Bona, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister and the Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, addressed the issue of increasing disinformation efforts on social media that lead to undermine the country’s national unity.
H.E. Spokesperson reported that in recent weeks, there has been a noticeable rise in the creation of fraudulent Facebook accounts. These accounts falsely present themselves as belonging to Cambodian nationals by using Khmer names and posting in the Khmer Language. However, the individuals behind these accounts are not Cambodian citizens. The intention, he explained, is to sow discord and weaken the spirit of national solidarity among the Cambodian people.
“Regarding the spreading of fake news, I would like to inform our fellow Cambodians that there are currently many fake Facebook accounts created by using Khmer names, but those users aren’t Khmer citizens. This is another trick aimed at pretending to be Khmer citizens by using Khmer names, writing Khmer characters to undermine the national unity,” H.E. Pen Bona stated.
He further appealed to all Cambodians, both living local and abroad, to continue standing together in defense of national sovereignty and dignity.
“So, be cautious and not to fall such of those horrible tricks. During this hard time, Cambodian citizens both local and living abroad must maintain strong unity to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also our nation’s dignity. let’s keep this great national unity forever,” he said.
