BREAKING: Thai Military Launches Relentless Assault on Cambodian Territory Amid High-Level Peace Talks in Kuala Lumpur General Maly Sochea, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense

Phnom Penh, July 28, 2025 – In a press conference held at the Peace Palace this Monday morning, General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, condemned the Thai military for continuing its heavy bombardment on Cambodian territory despite an agreement between both nations to seek a ceasefire through high-level talks in Malaysia.

General Socheata stated that although both Cambodia and Thailand had agreed to dispatch their respective Prime Ministers to Kuala Lumpur on July 28, 2025, to negotiate a ceasefire, Thai military aggression intensified overnight and into the day.

“Starting from 2:00 AM on July 27 until 1:00 PM, the Thai military launched coordinated attacks across several Cambodian sites, including the 5 Makara area, Chamkar Chek, and the Preah Vihear Temple,” said the Spokesperson. “At 3:07 PM, a Thai aircraft deployed poison gas in An Seh, and by 4:12 PM, multiple rounds of artillery were fired into Chub Koki and Thmor Don.”

She further elaborated that areas near the Tamoan Thom Temple and Ta Krabey Temple were heavily shelled “like a downpour,” while assaults intensified in other areas including Phnom Khmoch and An Seh. “From 1:10 PM to 4:00 PM, Thai fighter jets fired multiple rocket rounds across our sovereign territory,” she reported.

“At 4:48 PM, Thai forces began shelling the Mom Bei area,” she continued. “By 5:06 PM, Thailand had escalated the attack using suicide drones, cluster munitions, and poison gas in the Phnom Khmoch zone — and this continued well into July 28, the very day when peace negotiations are scheduled to take place.”

According to General Socheata, even after midnight, at precisely 3:10 AM, the Thai military resumed its preemptive strikes against Cambodia, bombarding Tamoan Thom and Ta Krabey Temples until at least 5:07 AM.

This marks the fifth consecutive day of Thai military aggression since the initial unprovoked attack occurred at 8:46 AM on Thursday, July 24, 2025, when Cambodian forces stationed at Tamoan Thom Temple came under fire. In response, Cambodia exercised its legitimate right to self-defense under international law.

The Cambodian government has strongly denounced this ongoing violation of its sovereignty and reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution, despite Thailand’s continuous breaches of diplomatic norms and military ethics.
