China – A Chinese male model has reportedly fallen victim to a human trafficking scheme orchestrated by a criminal gang in Thailand. Lured by a fake opportunity to shoot for a magazine, the model was later transported to a border area between Thailand and Myanmar and is now missing. Authorities are actively working to locate and rescue him, according to Chinese media reports published on July 3.

The victim’s sister told The Beijing News that her younger brother, Zhōng Hàobīn, a professional model, was deceived by an individual he had previously worked with. The person allegedly invited him to participate in a magazine cover shoot in Thailand, but instead he was taken to an area near the Thai–Myanmar border.

According to the same source, Zhong departed from Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou on June 8 and arrived in Bangkok. Shortly after his arrival, all contact with him was lost. It was not until June 13 that he briefly reconnected with his sister via a video call, during which he revealed that he had been tricked and brought to Myanmar, though he did not disclose his exact location. The family has since filed formal requests for investigation and assistance with police in both Guangzhou and Bangkok.

Posts circulating on social media revealed that the victim’s father had recently died in a traffic accident. The sister wrote that her brother had been working hard to support the entire family and that his disappearance has left them deeply distressed.

This case bears striking similarities to an earlier incident involving Chinese actor Wang Xing, who was also lured to Thailand in January 2025 under the pretense of filming a movie. He was subsequently trafficked into Myanmar and sold multiple times into online scam operations near the Thai–Myanmar border. Fortunately, Thai police were eventually able to locate and rescue Wang from the criminal compound.

The current case highlights the continuing dangers posed by trafficking networks operating in the region and the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to combat such exploitation.
