On the afternoon of 1 July, 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency NAGASHIMA Akihisa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Member of House of Representatives at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, His Excellency Nagashima conveyed his sincere gratitude to Samdech Borvor Thipadei for the warm welcome and for taking the time to receive him and his delegation despite his busy schedule. He expressed his satisfaction and high appreciation for the deep cooperation between Japan and Cambodia in key sectors. In the area of national defense and security, he also expressed his satisfaction, particularly with the ongoing collaboration between the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces and the Royal Cambodian Army, through continued support for training and capacity building. He also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for welcoming the visit of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to the Ream Naval Base, noting that it would contribute to strengthening and expanding naval cooperation between the two countries. In the area of economic cooperation, His Excellency Nagashima welcomed the Cambodia–Japan Economic Co-Creation Package, a new opportunity to attract more Japanese investments to Cambodia. On trilateral cooperation in training on humanitarian mine clearance, he reaffirmed Japan’s continued commitment to working with Cambodia to support Ukraine and other countries. He emphasised Japan’s strong commitment to further advancing and deepening Japan–Cambodia relations in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Nagashima and his delegation. He expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their important contributions to Cambodia’s peace process and socio-economic development. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also expressed satisfaction and high appreciation for the ongoing progress in defense and security cooperation and thanked Japan for its support in training and capacity building of the Cambodian armed forces. At the same time, he expressed strong satisfaction with the launch of a new Cambodia–Japan cooperation mechanism centered on three main pillars and affirmed that Cambodian ministries and institutions are ready to actively engage with the Japanese side to implement this new mechanism. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also thanked Japan for its past support for mine clearance in Cambodia and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to supporting Japan’s humanitarian mine clearance initiatives to contribute to the international community, through sending peacekeeping forces under the umbrella of the United Nations, particularly in the areas of mine clearance and peacekeeping—drawing on its own experience as a former host country of UN peacekeeping forces.
