Cambodian Ministry of Mines and Energy Clarifies Cambodia Is Not Importing Any Electricity from Thailand

(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Mines and Energy affirmed that Cambodia is not importing any electricity from Thailand, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Friday (Jun. 27).
“The Ministry of Mines and Energy notes with concern recent public remarks suggesting that Cambodia continues to purchase electricity from Thailand at six grid points.
To clarify the situation, the Ministry of Mines and Energy affirms that Cambodia is not importing any electricity from Thailand. All Thailand-Cambodia cross-border power transmission has been suspended, and no electricity is currently being received at any connection point. This includes smaller connections that previously supplied villages near the border. Cambodia has sufficient domestic capacity to supply electricity across the entire country.
The suggestion that electricity imports are ongoing does not reflect the current reality and risks misleading the public. The Ministry encourages restraint and responsibility in public-facing commentary on energy matters, particularly where they relate to cross-border infrastructure.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy continues to manage Cambodia’s energy sector in line with national priorities and with a commitment to clear and accurate communication of operational decisions.”
