Korean Environment Minister Commits to Enhancing Water Resources Cooperation with Cambodia
On the afternoon of May 5, 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia received a courtesy call from His Excellency Kim Wansup, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency expressed his pleasure at visiting Cambodia and thanked Samdech Borvor Thipadei for the courtesy call. He highly appreciated the progress in Korea-Cambodia relations, which have achieved a strategic partnership, contributing to Win-Win cooperation for both nations. The Minister stated that he and his delegation would meet with leaders of Cambodia’s Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in water resources management. This MoU will enhance the efficiency and sustainability of water resources management in Cambodia. The Minister also shared South Korea’s experience in water resources management, utilising modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This ensures efficiency, sustainability, and the full potential of resources, supporting the economy, particularly the industrial sector. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening cooperation with Cambodia in this sector.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei thanked the Korean government and people for their support for Cambodia’s development. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation in the water resources sector between Cambodia and South Korea. In addition, He noted that with Cambodia’s rapid urbanisation progressing, coupled with increasing demand for water and improved living standards, the Royal Government of Cambodia has prioritised clean water supply and the efficient, sustainable management of water resources. In this regard, Samdech Borvor Thipadei emphasised the importance of the Mekong River-Tonle Sap Irrigation Linkage project and thanked the South Korean government for its support in the feasibility study of the project. Samdech Borvor Thipadei encouraged the South Korean Ministry of Environment to maintain close collaboration with the Cambodian Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology to contribute to the efficient and sustainable management of resources.
