UYFC announces start of site preparations for Angkor Sangkranta
The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) announced yesterday the commencement of site preparations for the Angkor Sangkranta event, which will be held at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap province to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year in 2025.
After leading a team to inspect the site and chairing a meeting to monitor the progress of preparations, Hun Many, President of the UYFC and Chairman of the Angkor Sangkranta Organising Committee, along with relevant teams, held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of site preparation at Angkor Wat yesterday.
This year’s Angkor Sangkranta will be organised on a larger scale than previous years, featuring special programmes never before seen.
The Angkor Sangkranta event aims to promote culture and tradition while developing cultural tourism.
It provides a great opportunity to showcase the essence of Cambodian culture and attract both national and international tourists to visit Siem Reap province.
This year’s Khmer New Year celebration will take place over three days, from April 14 to 16.
After the ceremony, Many led a press conference to announce the preparations for the 2025 Angkor Sangkranta event.
The conference was attended by Sok Sabayna, head of the Angkor Sangkranta executive team; Prak Sophorn, governor of Siem Reap province and president of the Union of Cambodian Youth Federations of Siem Reap; and Hang Peou, director-general of the Apsara National Authority.
The conference officially announced the preparations for the 2025 Angkor Sangkranta event, which is held under the theme “Smile to Celebrate the New Year”—a theme inspired by the wishes of many citizens. The conference highlighted the programme objectives and preparations for the unique and exciting 2025 event, which aims to bring smiles and joy to the Khmer people during the traditional national New Year.
The event will emphasise the heritage, civilisation, culture, traditions, and accomplishments of Khmer ancestors in a rich and diverse display at Angkor for three days.
Many, also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service, stated at the press conference that organising the 12th Angkor Sangkranta is a long-held wish of the people and a new initiative from Prime Minister Hun Manet for Cambodians to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year.
Sabayna confirmed at the press conference that this year’s Angkor Sangkranta programme is bigger than ever, featuring many unique programmes designed to provide fun for participants.
