Ex-UN chief Ban Ki-moon lauds Cambodia’s roles as current Asean chair
PHNOM PENH, Feb 13 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): Former UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon commended Cambodia for its active roles as the Asean chair in 2022 and Prime Minister Hun Sen for his recent visit to Myanmar which he said was an important move towards a solution to the crisis.
Hun Sen met with Ban at the World Peace Summit organised by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) in the South Korean capital Seoul on February 11, which they co-chaired.
During the meeting, Ban expressed his support for the important role of Asean, especially the bloc’s centrality, according to Hun Sen’s Facebook post.
Ban said Hun Sen’s recent visit to Myanmar was an important step towards a solution to the Myanmar conflict. He supported the appointment of the Asean special envoy on Myanmar.
Hun Sen thanked Ban for his support, saying he was delighted to co-chair the summit with him this year. He also commended UPF for organising the summit.
“UPF has done a great job. It is a mechanism for seeking peace on the Korean Peninsula. UPF has rallied world leaders, both incumbent and former leaders, to come to this summit,” said the post.
“We should work together to strengthen what UPF has done because it is very important in peacemaking.” – Phnom Penh Post/ANN
