ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers Vow to Strengthen Cooperation to Revitalize ASEAN-India Tourism
ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers have set a joint plan to find ways to better use digital technology for the development of ASEAN tourism and to continue to strengthen cooperation to restore ASEAN-India tourism.
The agreement was reached at the 9th ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in person and online in Sihanoukville, chaired by Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia and Co-President Kisan. G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Tourism of India.
The meeting was also attended by ASEAN Tourism Ministers, Indian Tourism Ministers, ASEAN Secretaries-General, leaders of the Ministry of Tourism, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Interior, consisting of about 100 people.
At the meeting, the ASEAN-India National Institutions agreed to find ways to better use digital technology for the evolution of ASEAN tourism.
The ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers’ Meeting also pledged to strengthen cooperation aimed at reviving ASEAN-India tourism.
The main points that were discussed and achieved in the above meeting are as follows:
- The meeting also noted that investment in tourism is a key factor in the rehabilitation of tourism, aimed at socio-economic rehabilitation for the reduction of poverty of the people of ASEAN and India.
- Examined and evaluated the action plan to ensure the implementation in accordance with the ASEAN-India Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2021-2022.
- Considered that the ASEAN Tourism Rehabilitation Plan, led by the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, is qualified for the re-opening of ASEAN tourism.
- The Covid-19 crisis has really spurred the development of digital technology.
It should be noted that Cambodia has prepared the Phnom Penh Declaration on Transforming ASEAN Tourism (Phnom Penh Declaration on Transforming ASEAN Tourism) to seek approval from the ASEAN Summit 2022, which was also approved by the 25th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting. Khmer Times
