PHNOM PENH — Prime Minister Hun Manet has reaffirmed Cambodia’s dedication to resolving border matters with Thailand through peaceful negotiations, emphasizing the role of the established Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

The statement follows a Special General Border Committee (GBC) meeting held on September 10 in Koh Kong Province. The meeting was co-chaired by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Tea Seiha, and Thailand’s Acting Minister of Defence, General Nattaphon Narkphanit.

According to the official minutes from the meeting, both nations agreed that the JBC is the proper channel for handling joint survey and demarcation work.

A key area of focus will be the border between Chouk Chey Village in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, and Nong Chan Village in Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. This issue has been prioritized for the next JBC meeting agenda. In the meantime, the Regional Border Committee (RBC) will manage the situation based on the JBC’s future guidance.

The government also noted that a previously scheduled JBC meeting in September was postponed due to a change in the composition of the Thai delegation.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed optimism that the JBC meeting will be held soon, allowing for continued dialogue in a spirit of good neighborliness and mutual respect.

The Royal Government stressed its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border, in line with international law and ASEAN principles.
