Cambodia Celebrates 25th Anniversary of International Literacy Day Under Theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”

Phnom Penh, 8 September 2025 — Cambodia today joined the international community in celebrating the 25th anniversary of International Literacy Day under the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.”
The theme highlights the importance of raising public awareness across the country on the significance of literacy programs while encouraging all stakeholders to contribute to advancing literacy in the digital age and strengthening capacities. Special focus is placed on disadvantaged groups, including vulnerable populations, out-of-school youth, factory workers, children, and indigenous youth, enabling them to become energetic, skilled human resources, global citizens, and contributors to national economic growth and societal progress.
Moreover, the theme aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s long-term vision, as outlined in the Cambodia Digital Economy and Social Policy Framework 2021–2035. This policy framework seeks to respond to the Fourth Industrial Revolution by building digital citizens, digital governance, and a digital economy.
This year’s commemoration marks a significant milestone, spanning from 8 September 2000 to 8 September 2025, reflecting a quarter-century of Cambodia’s commitment to advancing literacy and human capital development.
