Phnom Penh, September 2, 2025 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the Cambodian People’s Party, has concluded a fruitful visit to Vietnam where he participated in the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, held from September 1–2, 2025.

According to a Senate press release dated September 2, 2025, Cambodian and Vietnamese leaders exchanged views on strengthening cooperation within multilateral frameworks and on addressing regional issues of mutual concern. Samdech Techo Hun Sen underscored the important role of ASEAN—particularly the ASEAN Chair, Malaysia—alongside the support of the United States and the active participation of the People’s Republic of China, in achieving the ceasefire agreement on the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute. He also highlighted the urgency of establishing an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to monitor the ceasefire and to help restore normalcy at the border.

Vietnamese leaders expressed strong support for both the ceasefire and an effective monitoring mechanism, emphasizing their wish to see the Cambodia–Thailand border transformed into a peaceful and orderly frontier through peaceful settlement based on negotiations, diplomacy, and international law.

Both sides further agreed that relations between the ruling parties of Cambodia and Vietnam have grown robustly, serving as a guiding light and roadmap for state-to-state cooperation, which continues to deepen and expand. They committed to promoting more frequent exchanges of visits and communications at all levels, as part of efforts to build greater political trust and to bring bilateral cooperation to new heights with tangible outcomes.

The two sides also reaffirmed their determination to uphold the principle that no external force should be allowed to divide their friendship or to use the territory of one country against the other. They pledged to jointly resist any attempt at “color revolutions” and to safeguard their shared political stability and solidarity.
