Press Briefing by H.E. Pen Bona- Update on the implementation of the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand

The delegation of the U.S. Congress, led by Her Excellency Beth Van Duyne, Congresswoman of Texas, headed directly to inspect the situation of displaced civilians at the Wat Phu5000, Kulin District, Preah Vihear Province, on August 30, 2025. The delegation was warmly welcomed by His Excellency Kim Rithy, the governor of the province. It should be noted that on the afternoon of August 28, 2025, SamdechPhipadei Prime Minister, received a courtesy call from the U.S. Congressional Delegation at the Peace Palace.
The delegation comprised Her Excellency Beth Van Duyne, Congresswoman of Texas; Congressman Dr. Rich McCormickof Georgia; and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia. During this meeting, Her Excellency Beth VanDuyne praised the Cambodian government’s efforts in implementing key policies to attract foreign investors and expressed satisfaction with the progress of U.S.-Cambodian relations, particularly trade and investment. She also reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening and expanding the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Cambodia.
In response, Samdech Phipadei Prime Minister expressed gratitude toward U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the spacious facilitation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, which saved many lives. It was in this spirit that Cambodia nominated President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize as a token of gratitude for President Trump’s personal dedication to initiating this ceasefire and as requested by Cambodian citizens both at home and abroad. Samdech Phipadei also briefed the delegation on the progress of the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, including the implementation of a ceasefire aimed at restoring the relationship between the two countries.
The U.S. congressional delegation also affirmed the United States’ position in supporting the ceasefire and restoring peace and stability, and that the U.S. would continue to closely monitor these matters.
