His Excellency President Xi Jinping of China: China supports the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and urges the swift establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

On the afternoon of 30 August 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led a delegation to a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, the “SCO Plus” meeting, which was held from 30 August to 1 September 2025, in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China.
During the meeting, President Xi extended his warmest and most heartfelt welcome to Samdech Borvor Thipadei and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s delegation for taking the time to attend the summit in China. The President described the Prime Minister’s presence as a significant opportunity to further strengthen the “ironclad” friendship and enhance solidarity between China and Cambodia, following his state visit to Cambodia last April.
Regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s firm support for a ceasefire, expressed backing for the ASEAN-led ceasefire observation mechanism under Malaysia’s leadership, and urged the early establishment of an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). He also pledged humanitarian assistance to Cambodia to support recovery efforts and help ease the hardships of those affected by the armed clashes in late July.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Government and people of China for their steadfast support for Cambodia’s development across all sectors. He highlighted that China’s assistance is a vital driving force in advancing socio-economic development, infrastructure development, and the improvement of the Cambodian people’s livelihoods. He further expressed his sincere thanks for China’s proactive role in facilitating an immediate ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, which he emphasised as a crucial step towards protecting citizens’ lives and restoring affected family livelihoods.
Before concluding, the two leaders exchanged views on strengthening and deepening cooperation across priority sectors, including politics and diplomacy, economy and trade, and infrastructure development with the aim of enhancing Cambodia’s self-reliance and safeguarding its national sovereignty.
