Cambodia Hails China’s Role in Border Peace Talks with Thailand

Phnom Penh, August 16, 2025 – The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has expressed deep gratitude to China for hosting trilateral talks with Cambodia and Thailand in Yunnan on August 14, 2025, praising Beijing’s role in easing border tensions and supporting the ceasefire agreed by both neighbors.

The RGC reaffirmed its firm commitment to peace, highlighting that the ceasefire—first reached on 28 July and reinforced during the 7 August General Border Committee meeting (GBC)—must be fully respected. Cambodia also urged the swift adoption of the ASEAN Observer Team’s Terms of Reference to ensure effective monitoring on the ground.

Cambodia further welcomed China’s continued support for post-conflict recovery and humanitarian mine clearance, stressing that demining must prioritize jointly designated border areas. The government reiterated its resolve to work with all partners to maintain peace, build trust, and secure lasting stability in the region.
