Cambodia Deems Allegations of Ceasefire Violation Baseless and Unfounded, Government Spokesperson
At a press conference held on the morning of Wednesday, 30 July 2025, at the Peace Palace, the Office of the Council of Ministers, His Excellency Pen Bona, Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia, firmly rejected the latest accusation that Cambodia violated the ceasefire agreement, calling it entirely baseless and without merit.
H.E. Pen Bona emphasized that since the beginning of the Cambodia-Thailand border tensions, Cambodia has been subjected to numerous allegations. “Lately, we have heard claims accusing Cambodia of being the aggressor, of provoking conflict, of firing first. And now, an accusation that Cambodia violated the ceasefire agreement reached on 28 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” he stated.
He underscored that “all of these allegations are groundless and do not correspond to the actual situation on the ground in Cambodia.”
It is worth noting that, according to the joint communique issued after the special meeting on ceasefire negotiations held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the afternoon of July 28, 2025. The meeting resulted in three key agreements between the Thai and Cambodian sides:
1. An immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from 24:00 hours (local time) on July 28, 2025.
2. An informal meeting of regional military commanders (Thailand’s Military Regions 1 and 2, and Cambodia’s Military Regions 4 and 5) scheduled for 07:00 on July 29, 2025. If mutually agreed upon, further meetings with ASEAN-led Joint Military Liaison Teams will follow.
3. A General Border Committee (GBC) meeting will be convened on August 4, 2025, with Cambodia serving as host.
The statement further notes that the foreign and defense ministers of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand have been instructed to develop a detailed mechanism to implement, monitor, and report on the ceasefire. This mechanism is intended to serve as a solid foundation for long-term peace and accountability.
