Prime Minister Hun Manet has revealed that he received a personal phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump late Sunday evening, shortly after returning to Cambodia from Malaysia, where he and his Thai counterpart reached a landmark agreement on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the two nations.

According to a Facebook message post by Mr. Hun Manet just an hour before the ceasefire came into effect at midnight, President Trump called to congratulate him on the success of the emergency ceasefire negotiations, which were facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and supported by major international stakeholders.

“President Trump considers this a crucial issue and personally monitored the developments,” Mr. Hun Manet stated in the post. He added that Trump had praised the swift diplomatic breakthrough and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Mr. Hun Manet also expressed his appreciation to President Trump for playing a key role in initiating and encouraging the ceasefire dialogue. The U.S., under Trump’s directive, co-organised the special meeting held in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the day, which ended five days of escalating military clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

“To ensure the full and lasting implementation of the ceasefire agreement, there must be a clear and effective monitoring mechanism,” the premier wrote, citing a point of consensus reached during the trilateral talks. In response, President Trump agreed to have the United States participate in the implementation monitoring process alongside Malaysia, which will oversee the mechanism’s coordination.

The U.S. President reportedly emphasised that he views the ceasefire agreement as a “high-priority” diplomatic achievement and expressed a strong desire to see enduring peace between Cambodia and Thailand.

In a message post on his Truth social media, President Trump confirmed he spoke to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Cambodia.

“I am pleased to announce that, after the involvement of President Donald J. Trump, both Countries have reached a CEASEFIRE and PEACE,” he wrote.

“Congratulations to all! By ending this War, we have saved thousands of lives. I have instructed my Trade Team to restart negotiations on Trade. I have now ended many Wars in just six months I am proud to be the President of PEACE!”
