Defence ministry: Thailand escalate conflict with fresh assaults, create disinformation

At 2am this morning, Thailand launched a heavy artillery attack on Cambodian territory in the Eagle Field area of Preah vihear. At 2.30am, Thai forces began attacking Tathav, Phnom 333 and Phnom Khmoach and launched drones.

At 4.50am, they fired indiscriminate artillery rounds at the Ta Mone Thom and Ta Krabey temples.

Mali Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, provided the updates at an 11am press conference this morning, July 27.

She also noted that Thailand launched an infantry assault on the Phnom Khmoach, An Ses and Va Intri areas.

Since 6.30am, infantry and armoured troops had been assaulting the Eagle Field, Bram Makara, Phnom Khmoach and An Ses.

Socheata also warned of large Thai troop buildups in the provinces bordering Battambang.

She went on to condemn what she described as a concerted campaign to publish “malicious, distorted and false information” which portrayed Cambodia as the aggressor.

“This is a desperate attempt to divert attention from the reality that Thailand has repeatedly violated Cambodian sovereignty and international law,” she said.

“The truth is undeniable: Thailand was the one who launched the first brutal attack on Cambodian territory,” she added.
