Phnom Penh, July 27, 2025 — The Cambodian government has firmly rejected allegations by Thailand accusing Cambodia of secretly planting landmines inside Thai territory, describing the claim as deceptive and completely unfounded.

At a press conference held Sunday morning at the Peace Palace, His Excellency Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stated that the accusations made by the Thai side lack merit and are intended to mislead the international community.

“The Thai claim that Cambodia has illegally laid mines inside Thai territory is not only false, but also deceptive in nature,” H.E. Chum Sounry declared. “Cambodia remains deeply committed to the Ottawa Treaty and has consistently been recognized and praised by the international community for its mine clearance efforts.”

He further emphasized that Cambodia has cooperated closely and actively with international demining organizations and has been acknowledged particularly by the United Nations for its strong commitment and transparency in fulfilling its obligations under international humanitarian frameworks.

Also addressing the media, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, reported that as of 6:00 AM today, Thai forces continue to carry out aggressive incursions into Cambodian territory. She noted that these actions disregard a ceasefire appeal made by U.S. President Donald Trump during a late-night diplomatic call early Sunday morning.

This marks the fourth day of escalating Thai military aggression against Cambodia’s legitimate sovereignty. The ongoing confrontation was triggered by a Thai offensive launched at 8:46 AM on Thursday, July 24, 2025, targeting Cambodian forces stationed at Tamuon Thom Temple. In response, Cambodia exercised its lawful right to self-defense.

Cambodia continues to call for restraint and respect for international law while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to peace, humanitarian norms, and protection of civilian lives.
