Senate President Reaffirms Commitment to Constitutional Monarchy
AKP | Phnom Penh, June 27, 2025 –President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to preserving its constitutional monarchy.
Speaking during a meeting with local council members in Preah Vihear province this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed the importance of upholding the monarchy as enshrined in the Constitution.
“The Constitution clearly states that the King is the Head of State for life. Therefore, Cambodia must continue to safeguard the monarchy,” he said.
He highlighted that since the restoration of the monarchy in 1993, Cambodia has successfully maintained the stability of the royal institution, despite facing various challenges over the years.
“I strongly urge that Cambodia must never abandon the monarchy. We must preserve our constitutional monarchy — a legacy of the late King-Father Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh — especially at a time when some other countries are facing internal turmoil due to regime change,” he stated.
Cambodia has been a constitutional monarchy since 1993, with His Majesty the King serving as Head of State.
