Samdech Techo Hun Sen Urges Farmers to Cultivate, Turning Crisis into Opportunity
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Five-Star General and President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called on local authorities in Oddar Meanchey province to encourage farmers to continue cultivating crops, turning the current crisis into an opportunity.
The appeal was made during a gathering with approximately 250 members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and Sangkat councils in Oddar Meanchey this morning, following his earlier meeting with frontline unit commanders.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also urged the promotion of local production to supply both the province and armed forces stationed along the border.
He noted that Cambodia is currently facing a dispute with Thailand and warned that if there is no change in leadership in Bangkok, a prolonged conflict could ensue—unlike the confrontation in 2011. He advised citizens to dig protective trenches and continue cultivating crops, especially now that the rainy season has arrived.
Commenting on border closures, Samdech Techo said the Thai side unilaterally shut its borders with Cambodia and only sought negotiations after their fruit exports were damaged. He added that Thailand is now behaving like a country that has completely isolated itself, pointing to ongoing border issues with Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia.
Despite the tensions, the Senate President reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to maintaining borders of friendship, peace, cooperation, and development with all neighbouring countries.
