In the wake of escalating cross-border tensions, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service H.E. Hun Many has unequivocally reaffirmed his strong backing for Cambodia’s armed forces.

He stressed their critical role in defending the nation’s territorial integrity, national interests, and its citizens against external threats.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page today, H.E. Hun Many expressed confidence that the Cambodian populace is closely observing the unfolding situation and the threats confronting the Kingdom since an armed incursion on May 28, 2025. That incident tragically resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier Suon Raon, who was killed in action, leaving behind a grieving family.

“I once again express my deepest condolences and pay tribute to the bravery of Suon Raon, who gave his life in defence of our nation,” Many wrote.

The Deputy Prime Minister condemned a series of provocations that followed the initial incursion. These include repeated threats to disrupt Cambodia’s electricity, internet and fuel supplies, as well as unilateral and protracted closures of border checkpoints. Such actions, he asserted, have negatively impacted the daily lives of both Cambodians and Thais residing along the border.

He further criticised recent military simulations, which he believes were designed to overtly showcase weapons and forces in a manner intended to belittle the capabilities of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, particularly its elite Khmer border units.

Despite these provocations, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister underscored Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to resolving the dispute through peaceful means.

“Although these threats and displays of disdain may come from various sources, it is clear to the Cambodian people and the Royal Government that we are united in addressing the situation through peaceful and mature diplomacy,” he stated. “We are committed to solutions based on technical expertise and international law, and we do not wish for the dispute to escalate into an ethnic or national conflict.”

He also posed direct questions to the public, prompting reflection on accountability: “Who initiated the provocation on May 28, 2025? Who has resorted to military threats, economic coercion, and other hostile measures? Which party has refused to cooperate and instead aggravated the situation, including prolonging the border closure that has disrupted the livelihoods of people on both sides?”

“I firmly believe that the shared desire of the people, both Cambodian and Thai, is for peace, stability, and cooperation, as existed prior to May 28,” he added. “No matter the circumstances or the cost, I am proud of the unity and resolve shown by the Cambodian people, who continue to stand firmly behind the Royal Government and our brave armed forces.”

Concluding his message, H.E. Hun Many reiterated, “Once again, we reiterate our support for the Cambodian royal government’s efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully for the benefit of both nations. However, we also fully support the armed forces’ constant state of readiness to defend Cambodia’s territorial integrity, national interests, and the wellbeing of its people should aggression continue.”
