Cambodia Submits Official Request to ICJ

June 15, 2025 -The Royal Government of Cambodia has officially submitted a request to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to seek a resolution to the ongoing border dispute concerning the Ta Moan Thom, Ta Moan Tauch, and Ta Krabei temple complexes, as well as the Mom Bei area.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet announced the move this morning via his official media platforms, emphasising that it reflects Cambodia’s strong commitment to international law and peaceful conflict resolution.

Coincidentally, today also marks the 63rd anniversary of the ICJ’s historic ruling in favour of Cambodia in the Preah Vihear Temple case on June 15, 1962, he stressed.

While these two events are separated by 63 years, the Prime Minister noted that their spirit and purpose are the same: Cambodia is once again turning to the ICJ as a peaceful and lawful mechanism to resolve complex and sensitive border issues—issues that bilateral negotiations have failed to settle and that pose a high risk of armed conflict.

“Cambodia only seeks justice, accuracy, and clarity in the demarcation of its borders with neighbouring countries, so that future generations will not face ongoing disputes,” Samdech Thipadei stated.

The Prime Minister once again called on all Cambodians to trust the Royal Government in fulfilling this mission with strong resolve and a deep sense of responsibility to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and the supreme interests of the Cambodian people.
