‘Two northwest provinces to be new industrial hubs’
Two northwest provinces in the country are all set to become next industrial hubs, Prime Minister Hun Manet said Saturday, shedding light on the ongoing economic and infrastructural developments in Kampong Chhnang and Pursat.
Speaking after inaugurating a new building at Hun Sen Pramoay High School in Veal Veng district, Pursat, the Premier attributed the economic growth of Kampong Chhnang and Pursat to the development of National Road 10 (NR10) and the expanding rail network.
“The two northwest provinces are emerging as Cambodia’s next industrial hubs after Kampong Speu, driven by affordable land prices and the rapid development of interconnected infrastructure.”
Mr Hun Manet highlighted the efforts of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the Senate, to achieve lasting peace through “the win-win policy, which transformed Veal Veng from a former battlefield into a thriving economic zone”.
“Veal Veng is now home to natural tourist attractions. In 1999, the district had only about 500 families, but that number has grown to nearly 10,000 due to rising economic activities,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that while Cambodia has long possessed abundant natural resources, meaningful economic transformation was only achieved following the implementation of the ‘win-win policy’.
Mr Hun Manet stressed that NR10 connects Koh Kong, Pursat, Battambang and Pailin, extending to Poipet in Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, and Preah Vihear, which positions the region as a vital economic corridor in Cambodia’s northwest.
“The interconnected infrastructure will facilitate trade and business, ultimately improving the livelihoods of our people,” he said.

Tech said, “Kampong Chhnang is only about 90 kilometres from Phnom Penh, which makes it ideal for logistics and industrial operations.”
“Meanwhile, Pursat has long been considered the ‘battery of Cambodia’ due to its hydropower capacity, supplying electricity nationwide. Major firms like Ford and Minebea have already established operations there,” he added.
Tech further highlighted that National Road 5, which stretches over 400 kilometres and cost nearly $500 million, also runs through the two provinces.
