Angkor Sangkranta to be held in six locations in Siem Reap
The highly anticipated Angkor Sangkranta 2025 festival is set to be bigger and more vibrant than ever, expanding to six key locations with an array of engaging cultural activities designed to enhance public participation and celebrate Cambodia’s rich heritage.
Scheduled to take place from April 14 to 16, under the theme “Smile to Celebrate the New Year.” Angkor Sangkranta will feature activities across six major venues, at the front of Angkor Wat, the Royal Independence Gardens, the Siem Reap Riverbank, King’s Road, Pub Street, and Angkor Kyung Yu.
Sok Sabayna, Executive Director of the Angkor Sangkranta organising committee, said on Tuesday the event is more than just a traditional Khmer New Year celebration. It serves as a unifying cultural symbol, representing the prosperity and deep-rooted history of the Khmer civilisation.
This year’s festival will showcase an impressive line-up of 38 key programmes and involve 34 organising teams along with more than 5,000 youth volunteers. These efforts aim to create a lively atmosphere that fosters direct public engagement rather than passive exhibitions.
One of the festival’s key attractions is “My Village,” an immersive cultural space that has been relocated from Bayon Temple to the front of Angkor Wat. The expanded village now features seven thematic areas, including traditional Khmer music, Khmer sweets, handicrafts, Khmer noble houses, a grand performance stage, a ceremonial hall, and a marketplace.
Additionally, an eye-catching six-metre-tall giant puppet will be a standout visual feature, along with 13 forms of traditional Khmer performing arts. Special delicacies, deeply rooted in Angkorian tradition, will be showcased to highlight Cambodia’s rich culinary heritage.
Beyond cultural exhibitions, the festival will host various performances, competitions, and interactive experiences. The “My Village” cultural showcase will serve as a living exhibition of traditional crafts, food, and lifestyle.
