PM encourages Cambodian children to work diligently to enhance their skills and self-reliance if they fear losing land

Dr. Hun Manet, Cambodia’s Prime Minister, responded to concerns from certain Cambodian residents about sovereignty and territorial integrity, as they increasingly fear losing their nation. Cambodian children must strive harder to study, develop their skills, and become self-sufficient.
The Premier’s statement came after repeated references to territorial issues in the border area, particularly by extremist opposition groups abroad who exploit the border issue for their own political interests.
At the graduation ceremony of the University of South-East Asia in Siem Reap this morning, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised that in 1979, the Cambodian population was approximately 5 million, including those affected by war, particularly the genocidal Pol Pot regime, which claimed millions of Cambodian lives. However, following the country’s liberation and up to the present day, Cambodia’s population has grown to approximately 17 million.
The Prime Minister noted that each generation has more opportunities than the last. In this context, the Premier urged everyone to continue striving to empower children and provide them with greater opportunities than previous generations. This aligns with the government’s goal of investing in and strengthening the education sector.
Premier Hun Manet stated, “There is nothing wrong with being afraid of losing the country. I too fear losing it. My three children will have their own children, who will be my grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren. We have endured a long war, but let not that fear turn into discouragement or mistrust, which can lead to great losses. Conversely, the more you fear, the harder you should strive. Khmer children, the more you fear, the more you must work diligently to learn, enhance your abilities, and become self-sufficient.”
