PM Chinh rejoices over deepening Vietnam-Cambodia ties
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has expressed delight at the strengthened Vietnam-Cambodia relations, reaffirming that Vietnam always prioritizes nurturing its close-knit ties with Cambodia.
PM Pham Minh Chinh on February 19 hosted a reception in Hanoi for Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
Chinh proposed that Cambodia continue granting citizenship to people of Vietnamese origin who have been living legally and stably in the country. He also called for stronger border cooperation and closer coordination in combating transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking, human trafficking, and online fraud.
Welcoming Sar Sokha, Chinh extended his best regards and congratulations to Cambodian Senate President and Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and other senior leaders. He praised Cambodia’s tremendous achievements in recent years and expressed confidence that the country will continue progressing toward peace, stability, and prosperity.
The Vietnamese Government leader was glad to see the strong development of Vietnam-Cambodia relations, reaffirming that Vietnam always prioritizes nurturing its close-knit ties with Cambodia.
He underscored Vietnam’s unwavering support for a stable and prosperous Cambodia with a growing role on the regional and global stage.
Chinh acknowledged Cambodia’s support during Vietnam’s struggle for independence and, in turn, Vietnam’s assistance in helping Cambodia overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime. He applauded the strong cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, hailing the productive talks between the two ministers as a testament to their shared commitment to implementing high-level agreements.
He expressed hope that the two ministries will further bolster their collaboration, exchanging insights on strategic issues and swiftly addressing emerging challenges. He also underlined the importance of advising national leaders on security matters, cooperating in digital transformation, and developing a population database system.
The Vietnamese cabinet leader urged Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior to intensify efforts against cross-border crimes, particularly drug-related offenses, human trafficking, and cyber fraud schemes operating from Cambodian territory. He also stressed the need to crack down on hostile forces seeking to undermine bilateral ties and to facilitate the rescue and repatriation of Vietnamese citizens trapped in forced labor scams. Additionally, he called for a renewed push in border demarcation efforts to build a peaceful and cooperative frontier.
Sar Sokha thanked the Vietnamese Government chief for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from Hun Sen, Hun Manet, and other Cambodian leaders. He said his visit aimed to accelerated the implementation of agreements and cooperation frameworks established by the two nations’ senior leadership. He also acknowledged that Cambodia’s recent socioeconomic progress has been closely tied to Vietnam’s support and partnership.
Sharing Chinh’s views, the Cambodian Deputy PM emphasized that in today’s interconnected world, no country can thrive in isolation. He stressed the importance of working closely with trusted neighbors and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to preserving and strengthening its long-standing friendship with Vietnam.
He pledged that Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior will enhance cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and other agencies to effectively tackle crime, particularly drug smuggling and cyber scams.
Chinh also underscored the need to expand personnel exchanges and training programs while deepening mutual understanding among younger generations. Furthermore, he vowed to facilitate legal status for Vietnamese-origin residents in Cambodia, ensuring they can integrate seamlessly into the host nation and contribute to the flourishing ties between the two countries.
