Newly-appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu has outlined four key priorities to strengthen Cambodia-Vietnam relations during his diplomatic tenure.

During a courtesy call on Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, H.E. Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized his focus on: Political and Diplomatic Cooperation – Enhancing high-level exchanges and fostering stronger ties within parliamentary frameworks; Security and Defense – Strengthening collaboration to maintain security, social order, and combat cross-border crime; People-to-People Relations – Expanding engagement between citizens, especially youth, to deepen mutual understanding; Economic Cooperation – Boosting bilateral trade with the goal of reaching the $20 billion target set by both nations’ leaders.

The Vietnamese diplomat also updated Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Vietnam’s current situation and congratulated Cambodia on its achievements across various sectors.

In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador’s mission and expressed confidence in his contributions to furthering bilateral cooperation.

He acknowledged the long-standing support between the two nations, particularly Vietnam’s role in Cambodia’s liberation from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

The Senate President also highlighted Vietnam’s growing role as a key importer of Cambodian agricultural products, including cashew nuts and rice.

Regarding regional cooperation, Samdech Techo reaffirmed that although Cambodia has withdrawn from the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area framework, collaboration between the three countries has expanded to a broader national level.

He also emphasized the importance of continued communication and cooperation between the parties, governments, and parliaments of all three nations.
