The Supreme Court and Prosecutor General held its annual meeting on Friday to review the work results of 2024 and set work directions for 2025 in accordance with Article 73 of the 2014 Cambodian Law on Court Organisation within the participation of other judges, prosecutors, clerks and court officials from the capital and provincial courts and prosecutions.

Chiv Keng, President of the Supreme Court, said that in 2024, the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor General received a total of 2,840 cases including 1,680 criminal cases and 1,160 civil cases, and that among the criminal cases, the Supreme Court settled 1,103 cases while for civil cases, the court settled 774 cases.

In total, the Supreme Court and Prosecutor General settled a total of 1,877 cases and 963 cases remained unresolved, he added.

“Through the annual meeting to review the work results in 2024, it shows that the work achieved by the Supreme Court and Prosecutor General in 2024 has improved in resolving all types of cases, with 397 more cases solved compared to 2023,” Keng said.

“In addition, the annual meeting discussed and found effective solutions to the challenges to be implemented in 2025,” he said.

According to Keng, to provide better legal services, which contribute to the development of confidence in the judiciary, as well as strengthening law enforcement and the promotion of social justice in the rule of law, the annual meeting set work directions for 2025.

The legal system will strengthen professional ethics, encourage qualified officials to serve the judiciary well and impose strict discipline and do not pardon any officials who commit wrongdoing, corruption, causing difficulties for people who have cases in court.

It will also continue to support professionalism in the implementation of the campaign to promote and expedite the settlement of cases in court and the campaign to monitor and resolve irregularities in court for 2025 and continue to focus on drug cases, traffic accidents, registration cases and other cases related to gangsters.
