Cambodia, Indonesia Discuss Water Resources Cooperation
Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology H.E. Thor Chetha received here at the ministry on Feb. 3 Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Santo Darmosumarto to discuss the strengthening of cooperation in water resources and meteorology between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM), during the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing and expanding their partnership, particularly in water security and disaster management in the context of climate change.
H.E. Minister outlined Cambodia’s priority areas under the first phase of the Pentagonal Strategy of the 7th-mandate Royal Government led by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, which include: (1) enhancing water resource potential through the modernisation of irrigation system, (2) strengthening hydrology and meteorology services by implementing early warning systems, (3) developing legal and policy frameworks, (4) building institutional capacity through human resource development and innovation, (5) raising awareness on water resource management, and (6) strengthening cooperation with national and international development partners.
For his part, H.E. Santo Darmosumarto praised the progress of bilateral cooperation, highlighting significant achievements in their comprehensive partnership across various levels.
H.E. Ambassador clarified the position of the Republic of Indonesia in continuing to maintain and expand the cooperation between the two countries, strengthening and deepening it through the feasibility study for arranging a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation projects in the water resources and climate sectors, including knowledge and experience sharing, as well as technology for the management, development, and conservation of water resources and the modernisation of the climate sector, especially integrated water resources management (IWRM), community work, and natural disaster management.
