Some 82,000 landmines and UXOs destroyed in first eleven months
Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) destroyed 82,138 landmines and UXOs in the first eleven months of this year.
The update was shared yesterday by the Director General of CMAC, Heng Ratana, highlighting that the move has freed over 91,919,972 square metres of land from landmines and UXOs, about 92 percent more than this year’s target.
Cambodian Mine Action Centre had planned to clear at least 11,300 hectares of land areas with mines in 2021.
For 2022, CMAC plans to free 125 square kilometres of land from landmines and UXOs.
Last year, CMAC destroyed almost 40,000 landmines and UXOs, freeing over 9,200 hectares from mines, which was 115 percent against the year’s target.
