Cambodia Donates $13M and 500K of Sinovac Vaccine to Lao PDR
Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced to donate USD 13 million and 500,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine to the Lao government and the people to fight against COVID19.
The announcement was made during a bilateral meeting between Cambodian premier Hun Sen and Lao prime minister Phankham Viphavanh at the Peace Palace on Monday.
According to premier’s personal assistant Eang Sophalleth, the donation of USD 3 million came from the Royal Government of Cambodia and another USD 10 million from Cambodian donors.
Premier Viphavanh congratulated Cambodia on its success in hosting the Asia-Europe Summit. He also promised to assist Cambodia to host the ASEAN Summit in 2022.
During the meeting, the Lao premier also requested Samdech to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation under a comprehensive partnership.
Prime minister Viphavanh urged the two countries’ joint border commission to continue working on border work to complete as scheduled. He also proposed to strengthen cooperation on bilateral trade, investment, education, culture and tourism.
In this regard, prime minister Hun Sen requested his Lao counterpart to ensure that the two countries’ people can travel across the border for business and trade. Samdech also supports the promotion of Cambodia-Laos bilateral trade by boosting investment and supporting investors, as investment is a key to enhance political, economic and other cooperation.
