UNESCO and Cambodia Boost Collaborative Conservation Efforts
As Cambodia moves towards a goal of massive conservation projects both, cultural and natural resources, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is committed to join the nation in its commitment to boost collaborative efforts between the two entities.
In a meeting between the Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Phoeurng Sackona, and UNESCO representatives from the organizations headquarters in Paris, France, both parties pledged commitment to work together towards the conservation of various sectors and culture in Cambodia.
In the meeting various points of interest were discussed, in particular the progress of the conservation of both tangible and intangible cultural heritages. The preparation of Koh Ker Temple’s induction into the ranks of the World Heritage Site, the registration of Cambodian intangible cultural treasures on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List, and the inscription of Battambang City as a creative city were also discussed.
The meeting also touched upon the UNESCO’s support for projects on conservation, research and preparation of intangible heritage inventory in Cambodia.
Representatives of UNESCO thanked Cambodia for its efforts towards the preservation and protection of tangible and intangible heritage. The organization also showed appreciation for the countries ratification and carrying out UNESCO’s conventions.
