The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance earned in total over 4,695 billion Riel or nearly US$1.16 billion in the first half of this year, down 8.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

The figures were shared in a press release on the outcome of a virtual review meeting of GDCE chaired by its Director General Mr. Kun Nhim yesterday.

This revenue represents 49 percent of the target stated in the Budget Law 2021, said Mr. Kun Nhim, pointing out that the revenue from the import of vehicles and machinery accounted for 42.3 percent, petroleum for 23.5 percent, while the construction materials for 6.2 percent and other commodities for 28 percent.

The customs and excise income plays a crucial role in Cambodia’s national income, said the director general, encouraging further hard-work of GDCE especially in alignment with the happening reform of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
