Good news awaits Cambodians. Another 500,000 people can now get their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, further expediting the target of meeting the 10 million people to be inoculated by end of this year.

This is following Cambodia receiving this morning another one million doses of the Sinovac vaccine from China at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

Health Ministry’s Secretary of State, Youk Sambath said the vaccines, ordered by the Royal Government of Cambodia from the biopharmaceutical company, Sinovac, arrived about 10am.

She said the government was placing more orders to purchase the vaccine to meet the target and the herd immunity as planned.

“It is the seventh time that we are getting Sinovac and another two million doses will arrive at the end of June and three million doses will arrive next month,” she added.

As of June 17, Cambodia has already received more than eight million doses of vaccine including Chinese government providing 2,200,000 doses of Sinopharm, 324,000 doses from COVAX (CoviShield) and Cambodia ordering 4,500,000 doses of Sinovac and 1,000,000 doses of Sinopharm.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has launched a vaccination plan for about 13 million people aged 18 and over, equivalent to about 26 million doses of vaccine. Khmer Times
