Chinese government has confirmed the imports of more Cambodian agricultural products as contribution to the Kingdom’s agricultural development and to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The confirmation was made by Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Wang Yi during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Prak Sakhonn, during the latter’s working visit in China on June 8.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Wang Yi said that China will continue to support Cambodia and increase the imports of Cambodian agricultural products, particularly milled rice and mangos.

The remarks were reiterated at the same time Cambodia is classifying potential agricultural products for export to China.

The potential agricultural products include Palin longan, durian, dragon fruits and healthy bird saliva (the binding agent in bird’s nests).

These products would join fresh mangoes and fresh bananas as approved Cambodian agricultural exports to China.

Cambodia also planned to negotiate with the Chinese side on setting new quota of milled rice exported from Cambodia to China.

The talks are scheduled within this year as the current quota of milled rice export to China is almost finished.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, which will lead the talks with the Chinese side, the new quota of milled rice export to China will be 500,000 tonnes, a 100,000 tons increase from the current quota.
