In conjunction with International Children’s Day yesterday, King Norodom Sihamoni, donated rice and other essential items to 113 orphans and teachers at the KaisKids Orphanage in Kampong Speu province.

The royal gift comprised 30 tonnes of rice to the orphanage besides each of the teachers and orphans receiving $25, a T-shirt, 10 facemasks and a packet containing a blanket, pillow and mosquito net.

The gift also included a skirt or pants, white shirts, a book, a bag and a pen for each of the orphans.

On behalf of the King, the Minister of Royal Palace, Kong Sam Ol, handed them to the children at Treng Trayoeng commune in Phnom Sruoch district.

Upon handing over the gifts, Sam Ol told the teachers and the orphanage management that the King always has the welfare of the people in his mind and that is why he continues to donate in cash and kind to those in need.

The King also called on the children to learn hard for their future and to take care of their health, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kampong Speu Provincial governor Vei Samnang, in thanking the King, told Khmer Times yesterday that the orphanage accepts abandoned and disabled children, teaches them English and provides learning skills such as using the computer, cutting hair, sewing and music with funding from philanthropists.
