Feasibility study on the new $60-million domestic airport in Mondulkiri province has been concluded, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The report was presented in a meeting held here on Mar. 30 under the chairmanship of Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

Havannall recommended two main points: the study shall include more tourism and economic development activities in accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Tourism and the study shall also include the strategic plan to attract more airlines to fly to that area. For example, the firm should come up with more creative tourist destination development or any other investment projects.

In response, the firms appreciated the inputs and were committed to adjusting the feasibility study.

The government granted late last year rights to China Power International Group in the form of a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement to invest in the airport project.

Located in Sen Monorom commune of O’ Raing district, the airport will be built on an area of 300 to 600 hectares and is estimated to cost over $60 million. Khmer Times
