CAMSOC to accelerate preparations for 2023 SEA Games
The Cambodian SEA Games organizing Committee (CAMSOC) will accelerate its preparations ahead of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
It was agreed during their latest meeting that the 14 technical committees working under the umbrella of CAMSOC will work harder starting January next year to achieve their respective timelines and goals.
The gathering was held on Tuesday at the National Olympic Committee (NOCC) headquarters in Phnom Penh.
Vath Chamroeun, secretary-general of NOCC, said faster action by the technical committees is needed to ensure that everything will run smoothly and will be in order during the main event and before that.
Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, who is the vice president of CAMSOC, presided over the meeting.
These groupings, which include the Media and Broadcasting Committee, were created earlier for CAMSOC to do its work more effectively and to ensure the success of the Games.
“What matters right now is that we don’t go backwards. We should move forward with confidence,” he stressed.
During the meeting, the NOCC official praised the committees and their leadership for having a clear grasp of their responsibilities, for having good plans and strategies and for working responsibly at every stage of their preparations.
In light of the pandemic and the difficulties it bring, CAMSOC has devised a streamlined working plan where every committee will have three administrators and 10-30 members working under them.
Cambodia is said to be doing a good job of preparing for Southeast Asia’s biggest sports event amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Contrary to initial projections, the pandemic only has a minimal effect on the preparations.
“We have not seen any significant impact on our preparations. The development of infrastructure, technical preparatory meetings and workshops for the games are being done following the schedule,” Chamroeun said in a prior media interview.
The 2023 SEA Games is historic in the sense that it will be the first time for this nation of 16 million people to host it.
As such, Cambodia is making the extra effort to be ready by 2023. The 32nd SEA Games will be held from May 5 to 15, 2023.
The main events will be held in Phnom Penh and other provinces, including Siem Reap, Takeo, Kampot, Battambang and Kampong Cham. Plans for the 2023 SEA Games include a ‘grand’ opening and closing ceremonies at the $160 million Morodok Techo National Stadium in the outskirts of Cambodia’s capital city. Khmer Times
