H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will virtually attend and deliver a statement during the Opening Session of the International Conference entitled “Strengthening Women’s Role in Building and Sustaining Peace: from Commitments to Results” on Dec. 7, 2020.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued last night, the participation will be made at the joint invitation of H.E. Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of UNWOMEN.

In his Opening Remarks, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will emphasise the increase of women’s indispensable roles contributing to building fair, inclusive, prosperous and peaceful societies in the world. He will highlight Cambodia’s national development policies and strategies for promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women as well as reaffirm Cambodia’s commitment to gender equality and equity. He will also provide the Conference with some practical recommendations.

H.E. Ms. Kheng Samvada, Standing Secretary of State of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs of Cambodia, will also virtually participate in each Plenary Session of the said Conference from Dec. 7-9, 2020.

This global event aims to advance gender-responsive peacebuilding as well as to accelerate women’s meaningful participation in and financing for gender-inclusive peacebuilding. During the Conference, the Leaders, senior officials from the UN and UN’s Member States, international and regional organisations, international financial institutions, women’s organisations, peacebuilding practitioners and other stakeholders are expected to reflect on the experiences of women involved in peace building, as well as to identify the current gaps and make commitments to accelerate action beyond 2020.
