Ministry to Recruit More Primary and High School Teachers

The Ministry of Education has announced it will recruit thousands more primary and high school teachers next year to promote the quality of public education in the Kingdom.

A total of 3,600 new educational practitioners will be recruited. Most will be primary and high school teachers, according to an official announcement signed by Minister of Education Hang Chuon Naron on Wednesday.

Seven new categories of educational practitioners have been classified. There will be 1,550 new primary school teachers, 1,100 high school teachers and the others will be for pre-school, higher education, sports and administration.

New educational practitioners will be recruited in all of the provinces, and Phnom Penh, but most will be dispatched to the provinces.

Phnom Penh will recruit only 32 teachers. Siem Reap province will recruit a total of 287 teachers, followed by 286 in Prey Veng province and 248 in Battambang province.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Education Ros Soveacha told Khmer Times that the ministry will recruit new educational practitioners according to needs in public institutions in 25 provinces and capital.

The ministry’s new recruitment will improve the deployment of teachers to schools in accordance with the staffing standards and all teachers will be recruited from the grassroots, he added.

According to statistics and indicators on public and private education institutions, Cambodia has 4,810 pre-schools, 7,716 primary schools, 1,324 lower-secondary schools, and 638 upper-secondary schools, with a total of 3.4 million students and 93,703 teachers.

Cambodia also has 44 public and 77 private higher education institutions.

On November 4, the Ministry of Civil Service also provided the green light to 22 state institutions to recruit a total of 6,106 new civil servants in 2021.

This has been drafted into the national budget law 2021, worth some $8.1 billion, and was approved by the cabinet in October. It will be discussed by lawmakers next week.
